The stearic acid is dissolved in a part of the alcohol at the same time as the plasticizer (glycerin, propylene glycol, etc.) is added. The sodium hydroxide solution is then warmed up in water with the remaining alcohol and added to the alcoholic stearic acid solution. Saponification proceeds rapidly under the influence of heating and stirring. The perfume oil is added next. Instead of sodium stearate, chips of a well-dried, white toilet soap may also be used. Before being dissolved in alcohol they are moistened with water, speeding up the process of dissolution under heat. |
