These mixtures may be diluted with water to consistencies required to secure the desired amount of impregnant retained by an immersed sheet. Excess impregnant is removed by passing through squeeze rolls, after which the sheet is dried.
Similar products may be manufactured by incorporation of "indulin"-latex mixtures into pulp before forming the sheet. A solution containing 20% "Indulin" A and 1 to 2% sodium hydroxide is prepared. This is mixed with enough latex to give two to four times as much rubber solids as "Indulin." After thorough blending with beaten pulp of about 1% consistency, alum is added to precipitate the "Indulin" and rubber in and around the fibers; then the sheet is formed in the usual way on a paper machine, dried, and calendared. |
