Recovery of Inserts from Phenolic Moldings |

Metallic inserts may be recovered undamaged from phenolic moldings
by the following method:
Cut or break the molding into pieces and discard all excess material.
Place the pieces in a wiremesh basket and treat at 200 to 210'F. in the
following solution
Water/1 gal.
Sodium Cyanide*/1 oz.
Potassium Hydroxide/8 oz.
*Highly poisonous.
"Duponol" WA/0.1 OZ.
Sodium Hydroxide/8 oz. |

the cured phenolic molding compound will rapidly disintegrate in the solution and the metallic inserts are readily removed. If the inserts are discolored by the treatment, they may be put through a bright dip and are then ready for reuse. |
