Bring the water temperature to at least 60'C while stirring with moderate agitation. Add the "Neodol" ethoxylate, then slowly add the "Gantrez" AN-149 powder while bringing the mixture temperature to 90'C.
Continue stirring with moderate agitation until the mixture becomes clear (about 20 min). At this point the stabilizer reaction is complete.
When the solution is clear, add the KOH pellets and dissolve. The stirrer speed is then increased to maximize stirring efficiency through the remainder of the procedure. Very high shear stirring is required, i.e., 650 ft/min stirrer tip speed.
Dye and brighteners, if desired, are added.
The CMC, sodium silicate, and the bulk of the "Neodol" ethoxylate are added in that order. the mixture is stirred for 5 min. the tetrapotassium pyrophosphate is added, and the final mixture is stirred for 15 min.
With exception of the "Gantrez" AN-149, all other ingredients may be added as water solutions-with appropriate adjustment for the total water content. |
