Mineral Spirits (or mixture with gum spirits of turpentine 1:1)/65 1) Soft pastes: Melt the solids and heat the melt to about 230-250'F., depending on the melting point of the unoxidized polyethylene wax. If oil soluble dyestuffs are required, add these to the wax melt before adding the paraffin. Dilute the melt with the preheated mineral spirits to obtain a final mixing temperature of 167'F. cool down to the required pouring temperature, using agitation. Extremely fast cooling results in very soft and crystalline pastes. When used for black shoe polish, the Color Mix should be diluted with approx. 10 parts of the preheated mineral spirits, or gum turpentine, preheated to 176'F., and added to the batch at approximately 120'F. 2) Hard Pastes: Melt the solids and heat to about 230-250'F. Add the unpreheated mineral spirits as fast as possible to end up with a final mixing temperature of about 130-140'F. A semi-pasty, very grainy product |
