melt the "EPOLENE" E-11 and cationic surfactant and cool to 120'C (250'F). The melt temperature should not exceed 150'C. (302'F.). Add the acetic acid to the "EPOLENE" E-11 and cationic surfactant melt and mix thoroughly. (Mixing time 1 to 2 minutes.) This step should be closely controlled. Acetic acid boils at about 118'C. (245'F.), and prolonged heating will evaporate the acetic acid and cause faulty emulsification. While maintaining good but not violent agitation, slowly pour the melt into water which has been heated to 95-97'C. (203-207'F.). Violent or too rapid agitation results in the formation in the liquid of a vortex which quite often exposes the agitator or stirrer. Molten material contacting the exposed agitator may solidify on the surface and then separate from the agitator and be dispersed in the emulsion as solid particles.
