Water/30.0 lb The webs are usually sprayed on both sides either as they emerge from the crosslapper or by spraying one side, running the web through the oven and spraying the other side after the web turns over a roll for the return trip through the oven. A combined dry and cure time of 3 min at 325'F is desirable, but but both lower and higher temperatures have been found satisfactory with some time adjustment. The drying and curing requirements will be generally the same as used for the spray-bonded web. In either case where a nonreactive emulsion is used, the catalyst may be omitted or where a cellulosic fiber is involed, the use of a small amount (5-15%) of a catalyzed urea or melamine resin such as Aerotex M-3 may prove desirable. As might be expected, spray bonding is normally used for the loftier webs, commonly called fiber fill, and saturation bonding is used for denser webs such as apparel interliners, sheets, gowns, etc. |
