Dissolve 100 parts of polyester A in 42.8 parts of styrene monomer to give a 70% solution by running the still warm and liquid resin into the styrene under good stirring. As soon as the resin has dissolved, cool the mixture rapidly, and then put in cold storage.
Polyester A is very reactive and must not be kept at elevated temperatures in the presence of styrene. If gelation should occur in spite of rapid cooling, the styrene can be inhibited by the addition of a further small amount of tert-butyl catechol. Inhibitor may also be added during the esterification period in the case of highly reactive resins. |
