Casting Polyester Compound |

Add 0.5 g of a 6% (metal content) solution of cobalt naphthenate or octoate to 100 g of polyester Varnish G and stir in well without whipping in air. Then disperse, by stirring, 1.5% of "Lupersol" DDM (60% methyl ethyl ketone peroxide in dimethyl phthalate). Fill into a mold and let it cure at room temperature for about 2 hours. A hard, tough casting is obtained.
If the cobalt is decreased to 0.25 g and the "Lupersol" to 0.5%, and if an additional 0.5% of "Luperco" ATC (50% benzoyl peroxide in tricresyl phosphate) is added, 1 hour at 50'C, followed by 1 hour at 100'C, will give excellent castings. Most of the other polyester varnishes may be cast in approximately the same manner, but the amount of catalyst and promoter will vary widely for optimum results and will have to be established by experiment. |
