Formulations for prepared closed-blow foams are identical to those suggested for openblow foams.
Generally, the amount of "Cellogen" is increased for closed blows. With 15 parts "Cellogen" per 100 parts of "Pliovic" AO, a sevenfold expansion with a density of about 8 lb. per cu. ft. may be expected.
With 25 parts "Cellogen" per 100 parts "Pliovic" AO, a ninefold expansion with a density of about 7 lb. per cu. ft. may be expected.
The compounds are placed in a leakproof mold and fused under the highest possible pressures for 3 to 15 minutes at about 330'F. In a 0.5 in.
thick mold, 5 minutes is usually adequate.
The stock is cooled under pressure. It is then removed from the die and the piece is given final expansion by heating it in boiling water or in an oven at 220'F. or lower. About 20 minutes are required for the final blow. |
