A. Wax Emulsion The emulsion is produced by melting the waxes, polyethylene, and oleic acid together. This mixture is brought to a temperature of 240/250'F and the KOH is then added slowly in a hot saturated solution. It is recommended that distilled water or demineralized water containing no carbonates by used to dissolve the KOH. The resulting mixture is cooked for at least 15 min. During this period the temperature can be allowed to drop back to 225/230'F. At the end of this time most of the foam has subsided and a clean, slightly viscous mixture results. The morpholine is added and cooked at 225/230'F for an additional five minutes. This mixture is then raised to a temperature of 230'F and poured into water at 205'F with rapid agitation.
B. Leveling Resin Solution Cut the leveling resin in ammonia solution in the usual manner. After solution is complete, cool to room temperature and add the tri-butoxyethylphosphate with constant stirring. the cloud which forms in the solution at this stage is cleared |
